Project 10 The human intestinal antibody repertoire in inflammatory bowel
disease

B cells play an essential role in intestinal immune homeostasis. However, the role of intestinal antibodies in the pathogenesis of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases is unknown. The aim is to characterize the intestinal antibody repertoire in healthy humans and IBD patients and to determine the role of antibodies in the development and pathogenesis of IBD. The experiments will provide basic information about the intestinal antibody repertoire and could in the long term contribute to the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for or against chronic inflammatory bowel diseases.
