Project 18 Deciphering the antibody-independent functions of antibody-producing cells in autoimmune diseases

B-cells can contribute to immunity by producing antibodies, by antigen presentation on T-cells and by cytokine production. We recently found that plasma cells are the major part of interleukin-10 secreting B cells during bacterial infection. This finding might indicate that antibody-secreting cells (ASC) contribute to immunity by secreting cytokines. The aim of this project is to comprehensively investigate the antibody-independent functions of ASCs in autoimmune diseases.
